SCLHRG's visit to the STAFFORDSHIRE REGIMENT MUSEUM

In March 2014 the SCLHRG went on a field trip visit to the Staffordshire Regiment Museum.
The museum is situated adjacent to Whittington Barracks near Lichfield and was opened as the depot of the South Staffordshire and North Staffordshire Regiment in 1980
The museum tells the story of this regiment and attempts to recreate a wartime atmosphere with mock up trenches, Anderson shelters and bomb sites.
The visitor is taken on a short journey and given a taste of the dire living conditions faced by soldiers during WW2 with over 11,000 exhibits
We were guided around the site by a 'Sergeant Major’ in full 1940's uniform who gave a running commentary on what the ordinary soldier had to face during his time in the trenches.....a bygone era excellently recreated and very entertaining.
