Histories of Local Train Stations and Their Victorian Masters

BIRMINGHAM HERITAGE WEEK IN SUTTON COLDFIELD

Friday 6th – Sunday 15th September 2024

As part of Birmingham Heritage Week in Sutton Coldfield, on Saturday 7th September 2024, the Sutton Coldfield Booking Office became the venue for an interesting event.  It consisted of a comprehensive display of items recalling the history of railway stations local to Sutton Coldfield.

This gave an opportunity for the groups known as ‘Friends of Chester Road Station’ and ‘Friends of Wylde Green Station’, in collaboration with the members of the ‘Sutton Coldfield Local History Research Group’, to show all sorts of memorabilia relating to their three local railway stations.  Old photos, information boards, paintings, knitted items, a fascinating model railway track, maps and written biographies of the early Station Masters all combined to bring a greater awareness of the heritage of the Sutton Coldfield area.
