Fire Brigade 1800s

This remarkable photograph of the Sutton Coldfield Fire Brigade, taken around 1897, on Mill Street, has been carefully restored—bringing back the detail, character, and pride of these early firefighters.

What’s even more incredible… the location still exists today, the fire brigade were housed in the old town hall (now Masonic Hall) on Mill Street.

Stand in the same spot over a century later, and you’ll find the very same brickwork, the same architectural details—almost untouched by time. You can see the fire hydrant still exists near the entrance. It’s a rare glimpse into how little some places change, even as the world around them transforms.

Moments like this remind us that history isn’t as distant as it feels—it’s still right here, quietly woven into the streets we walk every day.
